Our thematic areas & strategic programming framework.
YACRRD operates as a multi-sectoral, youth-led humanitarian and development organization working at the intersection of climate resilience, peacebuilding, sustainable livelihoods, humanitarian action, and community transformation.
CLIMATE RESILIENCE, ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION, AND DISASTER RISK REDUCTION
Supporting communities to adapt to climate change, reduce environmental degradation, and build resilience to floods and disasters.
SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE, FOOD SECURITY, AND LIVELIHOODS
Promoting resilient agricultural systems that improve food production, nutrition, household incomes, and community self-reliance.
HEALTH AND WELL-BEING
South Sudan’s health system remains fragile, with limited infrastructure, chronic shortages of medicines and personnel, and low health-seeking behavior exacerbated by poverty, illiteracy, and cultural barriers. Recurrent disease outbreaks—including malaria, diarrhea, and respiratory infections—claim thousands of lives annually, while maternal and child mortality rates rank among the highest globally
PEACE BUILDING SOCIAL COHESION AND CONFLICT SENSITIVITY
Through peace dialogues, mediation training, early warning systems, and community safety initiatives, we address root causes of violence, reduce crime and substance abuse, and foster social cohesion. Our approach is grounded in local traditions, interfaith cooperation, and meaningful youth participation in governance and peace processes.
PROTECTION AND INCLUSION
Our PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) protocols ensure zero tolerance for harm by our staff or partners. We also provide legal awareness and referral services, ensuring that the most marginalized access justice and support. Protection is not a standalone activity for YACRRD—it is mainstreamed across every intervention and geography.
YACRRD Geographical scope
Youth Action for Climate Resilience and Rural Development (YACRRD) South Sudan operates as a national youth-led organization working in the most climate-vulnerable, conflict-affected, disaster-prone, and economically marginalized communities across South Sudan prioritizing interventions in rural and peri-urban areas where climate change, environmental degradation, food insecurity, youth unemployment, displacement, protection risks, and limited access to basic services threaten sustainable development and community resilience with the aim of elevating need-based intervention and building long-term impacts while addressing emerging challenges.
RESEARCH, MONITORING, ACCOUNTABILITY, AND DIGITAL INNOVATION
We conduct participatory community assessments, establish accessible feedback and complaint mechanisms (including anonymous channels), and use digital data collection tools (ODK/KoboToolbox) to ensure real-time, disaggregated data.
