HEALTH AND WELL-BEING
South Sudan’s health system remains fragile, with limited infrastructure, chronic shortages of medicines and personnel, and low health-seeking behavior exacerbated by poverty, illiteracy, and cultural barriers. Recurrent disease outbreaks—including malaria, diarrhea, and respiratory infections—claim thousands of lives annually, while maternal and child mortality rates rank among the highest globally. Mental health needs are immense, yet psychosocial support services are virtually absent, leaving trauma from conflict, displacement, and gender-based violence unaddressed. YACRRD adopts a community-based primary health approach, focusing on prevention, awareness, and referral. We train community health volunteers, promote sexual and reproductive health education, integrate mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) into all programming, and address substance abuse—an emerging crisis among unemployed youth. Our health interventions are designed to be accessible, gender-sensitive, and linked to existing local structures, ensuring continuity beyond project cycles.
