PROTECTION AND INCLUSION

Women, children, internally displaced persons (IDPs), refugees, returnees, persons with disabilities, and the elderly in South Sudan face systemic exclusion, violence, and denial of basic rights. Harmful gender norms perpetuate early marriage, gender-based violence (GBV), and limited access to education and economic assets. Children experience recruitment into armed groups, family separation, child labor, and severe emotional distress. Displacement—whether from floods or conflict—exacerbates protection risks, including exploitation, trafficking, and loss of documentation. YACRRD adopts a survivor-centered, inclusive protection framework that integrates gender equality, child protection, disability inclusion, and elder support. We establish safe spaces, provide psychosocial support, facilitate family tracing and reunification, and strengthen community-based protection mechanisms. Our PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) protocols ensure zero tolerance for harm by our staff or partners. We also provide legal awareness and referral services, ensuring that the most marginalized access justice and support. Protection is not a standalone activity for YACRRD—it is mainstreamed across every intervention and geography.
