CLIMATE RESILIENCE, ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION, AND DISASTER RISK REDUCTION

South Sudan is one of the most climate-vulnerable countries in the world, experiencing recurrent and severe floods, prolonged droughts, and unpredictable rainfall patterns that destroy livelihoods, displace communities, and erode coping mechanisms. The 2022 unprecedented flooding alone displaced over one million people, destroyed vast agricultural lands, and submerged roads and health facilities. Rural youth and women, who depend almost entirely on natural resources for survival, bear the heaviest burden. Despite these challenges, local capacities for environmental management and disaster preparedness remain extremely weak. YACRRD works to reverse this by promoting community-led climate adaptation, restoring degraded ecosystems, establishing early warning systems, and integrating disaster risk reduction into rural development. Our interventions empower youth as agents of environmental stewardship and ensure that climate action is locally owned, gender-responsive, and conflict-sensitive.
