PEACE BUILDING SOCIAL COHESION AND CONFLICT SENSITIVITY

Decades of civil war, intercommunal violence, and resource-based conflicts have fractured South Sudan’s social fabric. Competition over land, water, and grazing routes frequently escalates into deadly cattle raids and revenge attacks, displacing communities and destroying livelihoods. Youth are often manipulated as perpetrators of violence, yet they also hold the greatest potential as peacebuilders. YACRRD recognizes that sustainable development is impossible without peace. We therefore integrate conflict sensitivity across all interventions and implement dedicated peacebuilding activities that bring together young people from herding and farming communities, host communities and displaced populations, and different ethnic groups. Through peace dialogues, mediation training, early warning systems, and community safety initiatives, we address root causes of violence, reduce crime and substance abuse, and foster social cohesion. Our approach is grounded in local traditions, interfaith cooperation, and meaningful youth participation in governance and peace processes.
