RESEARCH, MONITORING, ACCOUNTABILITY, AND DIGITAL INNOVATION

Humanitarian and development programming in South Sudan has historically suffered from weak data, limited community feedback, and poor accountability. Interventions are often designed without participatory baselines, leading to misaligned priorities, resource inefficiencies, and duplication of efforts. Communities—especially those in remote, hard-to-reach areas—remain excluded from shaping, evaluating, or improving the programs meant to serve them. YACRRD reverses this by embedding research, monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) into every project from design to closure. We conduct participatory community assessments, establish accessible feedback and complaint mechanisms (including anonymous channels), and use digital data collection tools (ODK/KoboToolbox) to ensure real-time, disaggregated data. Our accountability to affected populations (AAP) framework is aligned with the Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS), ensuring that communities receive clear information, participate meaningfully, and see their feedback acted upon. We also leverage digital innovation—mobile platforms, online learning, and innovation hubs to bridge the digital divide and equip rural youth with 21st-century skills. Evidence from our MEL system directly informs adaptive management, lesson learning, and transparent reporting to donors and partners.
